The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has categorically dismissed rumors suggesting a confrontation between star fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi and team captain Salman Ali Agha during a recent training session. These claims, which have been circulating across various social media platforms, have been described by the board as entirely “baseless” and “fabricated.”
In an official statement, the PCB clarified that no untoward incident took place during any practice or training sessions involving the players or coaching staff. The board emphasized that these false claims appear to be part of a deliberate campaign aimed at disturbing team cohesion and spreading misinformation at a critical time.
“The PCB considers such defamatory narratives a direct attack on the integrity and unity of the national squad,” the statement said. It further highlighted that the board remains committed to maintaining the dignity of the team and protecting its members from false and malicious allegations.
The statement stressed that the spread of unverified information not only damages reputations but also demoralizes the players and staff working hard to prepare for upcoming domestic and international matches. The PCB is reportedly planning to initiate legal proceedings under the Cybercrime Act against individuals and accounts responsible for originating or amplifying these falsehoods.
Misinformation, especially in sports, can have far-reaching consequences. It affects public perception, undermines trust in institutions, and disrupts the mental well-being of athletes. The board has thus urged the public and the media to exercise caution and responsibility when consuming and sharing content online.
The PCB reiterated that its top priority is to safeguard the well-being and morale of its players. With the domestic cricket season for 2025–26 on the horizon, the board emphasized the importance of physical fitness, mutual respect, and team spirit among the players. Training and preparations are underway, and the coaching staff remains fully engaged in ensuring optimal performance from the squad.
In the face of increasing digital speculation and rumor-mongering, the PCB called for restraint and encouraged fans and media outlets to rely only on official sources for credible updates.
By taking a firm stand against misinformation and legal steps against defamation, the PCB aims to send a strong message: the integrity of the national cricket team is not up for debate.
