Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired the inaugural meeting of the newly established task force dedicated to combating human trafficking on Monday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening legal frameworks and fostering institutional cooperation to eliminate the crime once and for all.
During the meeting, the PM instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to share its investigative findings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure international collaboration in the fight against human traffickers.
Shehbaz Sharif underscored the need to enhance the legal framework and directed the Interior Ministry to work closely with the Law Ministry to make existing laws more effective. He also called for the prompt implementation of the Federal Prosecution Act 2023 to ensure swift legal action against traffickers.
The Prime Minister further stressed the need for issuing red warrants to locate and prosecute human traffickers across the globe. Highlighting the urgency of addressing the issue, he directed authorities to accelerate the process of gathering additional resources to arrest and bring offenders to justice.
Reflecting on recent tragedies, PM Shehbaz revealed that 27 smugglers had been identified in connection with the deadly migrant boat disaster off the coast of Morocco, with five suspects already apprehended. He reiterated that a coordinated, multi-agency approach was essential to effectively combat human trafficking.
“Eradicating human trafficking completely requires the united efforts and cooperation of all relevant institutions,” he stated.
