Key Meeting Scheduled to Discuss Amendment
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called a crucial meeting with senators from coalition parties to discuss the approval of the 27th constitutional amendment. According to sources, senators from the government and allied parties have received invitations to attend the meeting tomorrow evening at 6:30 pm.
Following the discussion, the premier is expected to host a dinner in honour of the senators, signalling the importance of the gathering in building consensus among coalition members.
Ongoing Talks and Political Responses
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar confirmed that discussions on the amendment will continue until a full consensus is reached. He emphasized that all parties are being engaged seriously to ensure smooth parliamentary proceedings.
Meanwhile, PPP senior leader Farooq H. Naek chaired an in-camera meeting of the joint committee. Afterward, Tarar stated that while all political parties were invited, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has chosen to exercise its democratic right to boycott the session.
Tarar added, “All members have reviewed the draft of the constitutional amendment with seriousness today. Aliya Kamran received a phone call informing that her party will not attend the meeting.”
The meeting marks a pivotal step in securing the necessary support for the 27th amendment in the Senate, highlighting ongoing negotiations and political maneuvering ahead of the vote.
