ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to chair an important upcoming meeting of the Pakistan Cricket Board following India’s refusal to play the ICC Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan.
The Pakistani government has announced plans for extensive consultations with all stakeholders following India’s decision not to send its cricket team to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy.
This move comes amid growing concerns from government officials and various segments of Pakistani society. Sources indicate that a high-level meeting will be convened once Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, also the patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), returns.
The meeting will include representatives from the PCB, the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination, and other key stakeholders.
The discussion will also involve the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior and heads of security agencies. The PCB is set to present alternative proposals and options for handling the situation.
Attendees will review India’s letter to the ICC, explaining its stance, along with Pakistan’s response and available courses of action should India continue to withhold participation.
The PCB is currently preparing recommendations for the meeting, with a formal decision expected after consultations with all parties involved.
