ISLAMABAD: PTI leaders today expressed their resentment over the verdict of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and said the party would challenge disqualification of Imran Khan in the court.
The ruling coalition filed the Toshakhana reference with the ECP against Imran Khan for not declaring expensive gifts included costly wristwatch, gifted by Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman.
Talking to reporters on Friday, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said that ECP’s approach towards PTI had always been the worst.
He said, “This is a shameful decision which disgraced the 220-million people.”
Fawad termed the ECP’s decision as an assault on the institutions of Pakistan and he urged the party leaders and people to protest in support of Imran Khan.
Former Information Minister said that the ECP was not competent to make this decision. “Who are you [ECP] to take this decision?” he questioned.
Imran Khan was accused of misusing his position to purchase and sell gifts from Toshakhana which he had received during state visits abroad.
