Nationwide Protests
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has officially announced a nationwide protest movement against the incumbent government.
The announcement was relayed by PTI Senator Ali Zafar, who clarified that the protests will not be limited to Islamabad but will span across the entire country.
Speaking to reporters, Senator Zafar emphasized that the decision to launch this protest movement stems from what Imran Khan describes as being “pushed against the wall.” With limited options and no political space left, the PTI founder has opted to mobilize public resistance through mass protests.
Even though Khan remains incarcerated in Adiala Jail, he will be issuing directives for the movement from behind bars, Zafar stated.
Senator Zafar has also been given the critical task of formulating a detailed and comprehensive protest strategy. He mentioned that he will be presenting the plan during the party’s next consultative meeting.
Calling the movement “unprecedented,” Zafar acknowledged that PTI expects significant hurdles, but added that the party is fully prepared to overcome them. He assured supporters that the protest strategy would be finalized within the next few days.
The announcement follows renewed efforts by PTI leadership to unify the party and resolve internal rifts. According to sources, recent differences between Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur were resolved during a high-level meeting in Islamabad.
The meeting was attended by Khan’s three sisters, Gandapur, and senior PTI lawyers, who collectively reaffirmed their commitment to the party’s struggle for Khan’s release.
Aleema Khan clarified during the meeting that neither she nor her sisters are politically active, but they are fully dedicated to advocating for their brother’s freedom. The party leadership decided to escalate efforts to secure Khan’s release, instructing PTI parliamentarians to consistently attend court hearings related to his legal cases.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan expressed hope that Imran Khan might be released before Eidul Adha. Speaking to journalists in Islamabad, he stated, “We are trying our best and hopeful that Allah will open a way.” He also validated the concerns voiced by PTI workers over the prolonged incarceration of their leader. “No one can comprehend why PTI founder Imran Khan has spent two years behind bars,” Gohar remarked.
The protest movement is expected to gather momentum in the coming days, with PTI leaders coordinating activities nationwide amid ongoing legal and political pressures.
