ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has tasked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and his adviser, Barrister Saif, with leading negotiations with the establishment.
According to insiders, Gandapur and Saif played a key role in persuading Khan to initiate dialogue. Following their efforts, he officially entrusted them with the responsibility on Wednesday.
The discussions are set to remain confidential until tangible progress is achieved. A follow-up meeting between Khan and Gandapur is expected in the coming days to further the negotiations.
On Wednesday, Gandapur met Khan at Adiala Jail after a gap of nearly one and a half months. Their conversation, which lasted two and a half hours, covered institutional conflicts and concerns over criticism of PTI leadership on social media. The KP CM also provided Khan with updates on provincial affairs. After the meeting, both Gandapur and Saif left the jail without addressing the media.
This development comes shortly after PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar dismissed speculation about a potential deal with the establishment, asserting that the party had only reestablished contact. He emphasized that no final negotiations had commenced and labeled rumors of a deal as baseless.
Speculation surrounding PTI’s talks with the establishment isn’t new. Similar discussions surfaced in January following a meeting between Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, Gohar, and Gandapur.
