ISLAMABAD: PTI’s political committee’s members have voiced serious reservations about Murad Saeed’s unilateral decision to announce a protest march in Swat on April 11.
This issue is expected to be discussed with PTI’s jailed founder, Imran Khan, who will decide whether to endorse Murad Saeed’s confrontational approach or allow more moderate leaders in the party to pursue de-escalation and seek potential relief.
Sources say that US-based Pakistani doctors and businessmen, who recently met with Imran Khan, have urged him to tone down the party’s aggressive social media campaigns. However, no clear directive has been issued yet to reduce the rhetoric.
Several senior PTI leaders, including Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and members of the political committee, are reportedly unhappy with Murad Saeed’s decision to organize the protest without prior consultation or formal approval from the leadership.
Party insiders suggest that past protest actions have not yielded significant political gains and have only intensified pressure on the party and its jailed leadership. As sentiment within the party shifts toward dialogue, many believe that a confrontational approach may not be the best path forward, especially given the lack of international pressure and the failure of aggressive politics to bring about relief.
