Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has imposed a ban on the use of social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram by on-duty police officers.
The decision follows the circulation of several viral videos featuring Punjab police officers and female personnel on social media.
In response, the Punjab government has prohibited police personnel from using social media while on duty to prevent such incidents.
Following the orders, the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police issued a new social media usage policy for officers and employees, warning that strict disciplinary action would be taken against those who post videos while in uniform.
Under the IG’s directives, the AIG Operations also provided guidelines, stating that no social media activity is allowed without approval from the District Police Officer (DPO) or unit head.
Additionally, police officers and personnel are banned from sharing personal, political, or religious views on social media. Official police communications will only be issued through authorized channels managed by the DPO or unit head.
The policy further prohibits private individuals from using police vehicles or offices for social media purposes. Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and unit heads will be held personally accountable for enforcing these rules.
