Punjab is set to launch a new fleet of 28 electric buses in Gujrat by December 2025, marking another major milestone in the province’s ongoing efforts to modernize public transport and reduce carbon emissions.
Assistant Commissioner Bilal Zubair recently inspected proposed routes and bus stop locations for the upcoming electric bus service. He was joined by Regional Transport Authority Secretary Saddam Hussain, Municipal Committee Jalalpur Jattan Chief Officer Musharraf Baig, and other officials to ensure the timely development of necessary infrastructure.
Route Planning and Infrastructure Development
During the site visit, officials reviewed potential routes and bus stop locations across key areas of Gujrat. The inspection focused on ensuring passenger accessibility, convenience, and safety. Departments involved have been instructed to expedite construction work on bus stops and charging facilities to meet the project’s completion timeline.
Launch Timeline and Implementation
The eco-friendly transport project is being launched under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. It aims to begin operations before the end of the year. According to local administration officials, the project’s infrastructure development phase is progressing efficiently, with work expected to conclude by early December 2025.
Sustainable and Modern Urban Mobility
The introduction of electric buses in Gujrat represents another step toward promoting sustainable urban mobility in Punjab. The initiative will not only reduce air pollution but also provide residents with a cleaner, quieter, and more efficient mode of public transportation.
Zubair emphasized that this initiative aligns with Punjab’s broader environmental and development goals, aiming to make urban transport systems more energy-efficient and citizen-friendly. The electric buses will feature modern designs and improved comfort, providing commuters with an enhanced travel experience.
Provincial Expansion Plans
Punjab’s electric transport expansion reflects the government’s commitment to modern infrastructure and sustainable progress. Following the success of similar initiatives in other cities, the government is now extending its focus to smaller urban centers like Gujrat. The project is expected to serve as a model for future electric mobility initiatives across the province.
By introducing electric buses in Gujrat, Punjab is taking a firm step toward a cleaner, greener future — one that balances development with sustainability.
