Renowned maestro Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan shattered his previous attendance record at London’s iconic Wembley OVO Arena, performing to a packed house of nearly 12,000 fans who came together to sing, dance, and revel in his signature blend of Qawwali and Sufi music.
Marking his return to the UK after a two-year hiatus, Rahat reaffirmed his title as the King of Qawwali during the London leg of his “Legacy of the Khans 2025 Tour.” The tour, which also included sold-out shows in Birmingham and Manchester, was organised by celebrated promoter Vijay Bhola, founder of Rock On Music.
While all three performances received overwhelming acclaim, the London concert stood out as the crown jewel of the tour due to the sheer scale and electrifying energy of the audience.
Speaking about the success of the tour, Bhola praised Rahat’s magnetic artistry. “The phenomenal global success of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan proves that it’s the artist — through his passion, music, and dedication — who truly connects with audiences. Promoters play a supporting role, but it’s the talent on stage that creates magic,” he said.
Bhola added, “Rahat continues to win hearts around the world with his soulful voice and spiritual music. We’re honoured to work with a legend who represents the essence of South Asian music on the global stage.”
A special highlight of the tour was the debut performance of Rahat’s 20-year-old son, Shah Zaman Ali Khan, at Wembley OVO. Delivering five solo Qawwalis, Shah Zaman captivated the audience with his powerful vocals and emotive style, drawing instant comparisons to his great uncle, the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Rahat, visibly moved by his son’s reception, said: “The response across all three UK shows has been phenomenal. Performing in London is always a dream — it’s a city that represents the world. I felt deeply proud watching Shah Zaman being embraced by the audience. Many people asked him to perform Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s classics, and I believe he’s ready to carry our family’s musical legacy forward.”
The tour kicked off with a Friday night performance in Birmingham, followed by the record-setting Saturday night show in London, and concluded on Sunday in Manchester. From there, Rahat flew to Spain to continue his international tour.
With a career spanning decades, Rahat has recorded over 50 albums and performed at sold-out venues worldwide. Beyond Qawwali, his repertoire includes national anthems, ghazals, and popular Bollywood soundtracks. He is the voice behind blockbuster hits such as Tere Mast Mast Do Nain, Sajda, Dil To Baccha Hai, and Teri Ore.
As he continues to enchant audiences globally, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan remains a towering figure in South Asian music — and now, with his son stepping into the spotlight, a new chapter in the family’s musical legacy begins.
