Rashid Soomro
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Maulana Rashid Mahmood Soomro has delivered a strong and emotional response to India’s alleged violations of the Indus Waters Treaty, emphasizing Pakistan’s unity and readiness to defend its sovereignty.
Addressing the media in Ghotki, Soomro warned that any aggression against Pakistan would not go unanswered. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi should realize that Pakistan is not standing alone,” he stated passionately. “If the need arises, we will stand shoulder to shoulder with the Pakistan Army and will not hesitate to lay down our lives for the defense of our beloved homeland.”
He went further to stress the resolve and spirit of Pakistan’s citizens, saying, “If conflict is forced upon us, we will not only protect our borders with courage and determination, but we will also cross into enemy territory and have breakfast at Darul Uloom Deoband,” referring to the famous Islamic seminary in India.
His remarks underscored a fierce commitment to national defense while also invoking strong historical and religious ties.
Soomro also criticized India’s alleged attempts to deprive Pakistan of its rightful share of water under the long-standing Indus Waters Treaty.
He condemned New Delhi’s reported actions, declaring that the people of Pakistan are fully prepared to defend their nation’s rights, particularly when it comes to crucial resources like water.
“India’s conspiracies to deny Pakistan its water share will not succeed,” he said firmly. “If we are called upon to fight for our country or make the ultimate sacrifice, we will do so without hesitation, alongside our brave armed forces.”
The JUI leader’s comments come at a time of rising tensions between India and Pakistan. Relations have become particularly strained following India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the diplomatic fallout after the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack.
Against this backdrop, Soomro’s remarks reflect the heightened emotions and strong nationalistic sentiment prevailing in Pakistan.
