Pakistan’s national cricket team captain Mohammad Rizwan has expressed strong determination to clinch victory in the upcoming three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies.
In a video message, Rizwan said the team had undergone intensive practice sessions over the past two days, ensuring top-level preparation. He emphasised that the primary goal was to win the series and build on the positive momentum from Pakistan’s recent 2–1 T20I triumph over the same opponents. “The T20I result has boosted our confidence, and we aim to carry that energy into the ODIs,” he said.
The skipper praised Pakistan’s bowling depth, highlighting Sufyan Muqeem’s impressive performance in the T20I series and describing mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed as a “key asset” for the team. Rizwan also pointed to Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Hasan Ali, and Faheem Ashraf as pivotal players who could define the outcome of the series.
Addressing team changes, Rizwan admitted that the absence of opener Fakhar Zaman was a setback. However, he viewed it as a “golden opportunity” for emerging talent to shine on the international stage. He singled out Hasan Nawaz for praise, noting the youngster’s consistent performances over the past year.
“The absence of senior players opens doors for the next generation to step up, and we have full faith in them,” Rizwan added.
The ODI series kicks off on August 8 in Trinidad and Tobago, with the second and third matches scheduled for August 10 and 12. Fans are eager to see whether Pakistan can replicate its T20I success and strengthen its standing ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
