Ruet-e-Hilal Committee
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is slated to convene on Tuesday at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony to determine the sighting of the Shawwalul Mukarram moon.
Headed by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, the meeting will include representatives from various institutions, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco).
Prominent figures such as Director General Syed Mushahid Hussain Khalid, Allama Muhammad Dr Hussain Akbar, Mufti Fazl Jamil Rizvi, and Maulana Muhammad Yasin Zafar will also participate in the meeting.
Zonal members from Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar will contribute to the deliberations.
Highlighting the importance of public involvement, Maulana Azad urged citizens to actively engage in moon sighting efforts for Shawwalul Mukarram.
Individuals are encouraged to report any sightings to designated contact numbers provided by the committee.
Eid ul Fitr, marking the first day of Shawwal, is traditionally observed following the sighting of the moon on the 29th day of Ramadan.
This year, Eidul Fitr is expected to fall on either April 10 or April 11, depending on the moon sighting.
Eid celebrations hold significant cultural and religious importance in the Islamic calendar, symbolizing the culmination of a month-long period of fasting and spiritual reflection.
Earlier this week, the federal government announced Eidul Fitr holidays, set to begin on April 10. The duration of holidays varies based on the workweek of offices, with a longer break for offices operating six days a week compared to those with a five-day workweek.
