Australian authorities are currently probing allegations that Scott Swift, father of renowned singer Taylor Swift, was involved in an altercation with a photographer as the celebrity and her team disembarked from a superyacht in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to police spokeswoman Alicia McCumstie, reports indicate that a 71-year-old man purportedly assaulted a 51-year-old photographer at Neutral Bay Wharf around 2:30 am before departing the scene.
Investigations into the incident have been initiated by officers affiliated with the North Shore Police Area Command.
While Australian police typically refrain from formally identifying individuals involved in alleged crimes, both a law enforcement source and the photographer, Ben McDonald, have disclosed to the media that the accused individual is Scott Swift. McDonald recounted his experience, stating that he was photographing the pop icon on a yacht in Sydney Harbour following her sold-out performances in the city.
McDonald claimed that Swift’s security team obstructed him from taking photographs with an umbrella, and after Taylor Swift left the scene, a man, later identified as Scott Swift, confronted and allegedly assaulted him.
McDonald stated, “He punched me in the chops,” expressing his shock at the unexpected encounter.
Despite the allegations, a spokesperson for Taylor Swift countered with their own claims, asserting that there was aggressive behavior from unidentified individuals at the waterfront.
The spokesperson mentioned incidents of pushing and threats towards Taylor Swift’s security personnel, but did not address the allegations against Swift’s father or provide further details about the altercation.
Taylor Swift is currently on her blockbuster Eras Tour, which is projected to be the highest-grossing musical tour in history, with expectations exceeding $1 billion, according to Pollstar.
She is scheduled to continue her tour in Singapore this week.
