Passengers travelling internationally from Pakistan can now enjoy faster processing, as self-service boarding card machines have been installed at Lahore, Islamabad, and Karachi airports. The new system aims to streamline boarding and immigration procedures, significantly reducing long queues and wait times.
How the New System Works
Passengers can automatically obtain their boarding cards upon entering the airport. Immigration clearance will be handled via an advanced profiling app, linked to the airports’ IBM Integrated Border Management System (IBMS).
Travellers are required to pre-fill their profile data, including visit type and personal information, into the app before arrival. Only after completing this step are passengers allowed access to airport lounges.
At immigration counters, officials can process clearance in minutes by verifying documents and security responses directly through the app. Airport authorities emphasized that the system is designed to prevent travel using fraudulent visas or fake documents, enhancing overall airport security.
Modernizing Passenger Experience in Pakistan
All airlines operating at the three major airports are fully integrated into the new system, marking a significant step toward modernising passenger processing. Airport officials believe the setup will not only expedite boarding but also improve efficiency and safety for travellers.
The introduction of self-service boarding card machines demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to adopting advanced technologies at its international airports, aligning with global standards and enhancing the travel experience for both domestic and international passengers.
