Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Khan Marwat has been released, according to the reports. PTI Lawyers Forum Senior Vice President Adeel Butt confirmed Marwat’s release.
Earlier, it was reported that Sher Afzal Khan Marwat had been arrested.
Details indicate that PTI senior lawyer Sher Afzal Khan Marwat was arrested at Ouch while traveling from Chakdara to Bajaur. Before his arrest, a First Information Report (FIR) had been registered against Sher Afzal Khan Marwat and others from PTI for organizing a worker’s convention in Swabi.
PTI has vehemently called for the immediate and unconditional release of its leader, condemning what it describes as “blatant pressure tactics.” The party, via its official handle on X, asserted that such maneuvers will neither succeed nor be tolerated, labeling the alleged ‘abduction’ of its leader as a blatant attempt at pre-poll rigging.
In response to the incident, PTI urged Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa to promptly investigate what it termed the ‘kidnapping and unlawful arrest,’ emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
In a subsequent statement, the party announced that Sher Afzal Marwat had been ‘rescued’ from police custody, attributing the intervention to the collective efforts of the public and lawyers at the scene.
In October, a case was filed against Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) for allegedly inciting the public against state institutions through social media. The charges against him included sections 120-B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) and 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Previously, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted protective bail to Sher Afzal Marwat in two cases registered against him in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. During the protective bail hearing before Chief Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani, Marwat and his lawyer Malik Naveed Hayat appeared before the court. Sher Afzal Marwat had recently been appointed as the Senior Vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
