As the likelihood increases that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) might not secure sufficient seats to form the government at the federal level, the party is actively considering potential candidates for the role of opposition leader.
Two frontrunners in these deliberations are Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Sher Afzal Marwat, gaining prominence within PTI circles. Aleema Khan, sister of PTI Founder Imran Khan, is reportedly championing Sher Afzal Marwat’s candidacy for the opposition leader position, lending significant support within the party.
While internal discussions persist within the PTI regarding the selection process for the opposition leader, it’s emphasized that the ultimate decision lies with Imran Khan. This underscores the pivotal role of PTI’s leadership in shaping the party’s direction and strategy, especially if they fail to secure a majority in the upcoming elections.
The consideration of opposition leader candidates underscores PTI’s commitment to maintaining a robust and effective presence in the political landscape, irrespective of their position in the government. As the political scenario evolves, PTI remains dedicated to representing the interests of its constituents and actively contributing to the democratic process.
Simultaneously, on Tuesday, the PTI announced plans to form the government in the Centre and Punjab with the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM). PTI Information Secretary Raoof Hassan, in a press conference in Islamabad, stated, “We will form the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa along with the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI). On the instructions of the PTI founder, we will form the government in the two provinces [Punjab, KP].”
Furthermore, the party put forward Ali Amin Gandapur as the chief ministerial candidate for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Gandapur, a former federal minister and MNA, was nominated by PTI Founder Imran Khan, who, during an informal conversation with journalists at Adiala Jail, affirmed that there would be no negotiations with PML-N, PPP, and MQM.
