The Sindh government has revealed a major expansion in Karachi’s transport network. New double-decker buses and fresh EV buses are planned for launch next week. The decision aims to improve mobility and offer more modern travel options for citizens.
Double-Decker and EV Buses Set to Arrive Soon
Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon chaired a meeting to review several transport projects. Officials briefed him on the progress of the Yellow Line BRT, the Red Line BRT, the EV taxi rollout and the second phase of the Pink Scooties scheme.
During the meeting, he confirmed that both double-decker buses and new EV buses are expected to arrive in Karachi next week. Moreover, additional EV bus routes will also be introduced soon.
He shared that the province plans to launch EV taxis by December. The government also aims to bring 500 more vehicles during the current fiscal year to expand the existing fleet.
More People’s Bus Service Routes Coming
Sharjeel Memon announced that new routes of the People’s Bus Service will be launched across various districts of Sindh. This expansion will increase access to safe and affordable public transport in underserved areas.
He added that training programs for women and female students learning to ride scooties have already started. This initiative aims to enhance mobility and promote independent commuting for women.
Progress on Major Transport Projects Continues
Work on the Yellow Line BRT is progressing round the clock. According to the minister, the second phase of the Taj Haider Flyover is scheduled to begin soon. Meanwhile, two-way traffic on the completed portion of the flyover has opened for public use.
These developments highlight the government’s effort to strengthen Karachi’s transport infrastructure through sustained investment and consistent project execution.
A Step Toward Cleaner and More Inclusive Transport
The introduction of double-decker buses and EV buses reflects a broader shift toward modern and eco-friendly transport solutions. Additionally, initiatives such as the EV taxi project and women’s scooty training show a focus on inclusivity and sustainability.
As Karachi continues to expand, these improvements are expected to ease congestion, support greener mobility and offer better travel experiences for daily commuters.
