The Sindh High Court has temporarily lifted a ban on the broadcast of Imran Khan’s speeches, which was imposed through a notification by the Pakistan Electronic Media Authority on December 4.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) contested the notification by the Pakistan Electronic Media Authority (PEMRA) dated December 4, which prohibited the media from broadcasting statements made by Imran Khan. Ali Tahir, the lawyer representing PTI, contended that the ban on airing statements from a former prime minister was unlawful, and PEMRA had issued the notification in violation of the law. The lawyer urged the court to nullify the notification.
However, the court, after considering the arguments, announced that it was reserving its decision and temporarily suspended the notification. The court also issued notices to PEMRA and the federal government, instructing them to provide responses by December 21.
The controversial notification had been issued following a rare interview with Imran Khan in Adiala Jail during a hearing related to a cipher case. A few excerpts from Khan’s conversation were aired on television, where he reportedly stated that he had never been offered talks and expressed readiness to endure an extended period of incarceration.
Khan also asserted his confidence in PTI’s victory in the upcoming general election. Furthermore, he attributed the events of May 9 to Nawaz Sharif, claiming it was all part of a plan orchestrated in London.
Bushra Bibi Summoned in Toshakhana Case on Dec 11
Meanwhile, on Friday, the National Accountability Bureau issued a summons to Bushra Bibi, the wife of the former Prime Minister, directing her to appear before the NAB Rawalpindi office in Islamabad on December 11. This summons is in connection with the Toshakhana case.
The notice from the anti-graft body asserts that investigations have revealed that during the tenure of her husband, Imran Khan, as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Bushra Bibi received substantial gifts from foreign dignitaries, amounting to millions of rupees, and allegedly retained these gifts.
