ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has dismissed a petition by Ghulam Rasool, a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate, seeking a recount in Balochistan’s PB-14 constituency.
Rasool had contested the victory of Mahmoud Khan, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate, in the 2024 general elections, alleging irregularities in the vote counting process at seven of the 96 polling stations.
Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, heading a three-member bench, rejected Rasool’s claims, emphasizing that “votes are the most important evidence in elections, not Form 45.”
The court further noted that Rasool’s witnesses could not even establish their identities as polling agents.
Justices Naim Akhtar Afghan and Shahid Bلال also questioned the validity of the petitioner’s arguments, with Justice Shahid remarking that the case was simple and lacked evidence.
The court upheld Mahmoud Khan Lahri’s victory, who secured 22,639 votes, dismissing any accusations of bias by the presiding officers.
