Pakistan had signed a 39-month, $6 billion deal with the IMF in July 2019, but the Fund stopped the disbursement of $3 billion when the previous government breached its commitments and announced fuel and energy subsidies.
The MEFP would also contain certain prior actions that would be necessary for implementation before the IMF board takes up Pakistan’s case for approval and the subsequent disbursement of about $1 billion in July.
