US President Accuses South Africa of Farm Seizures and Violence
US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that no American official will attend the upcoming G20 Summit in South Africa, accusing the host nation of committing “human rights abuses” against its white Afrikaner population.
Posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump alleged that South Africa is responsible for the “killing and slaughter” of Afrikaners — descendants of Dutch, French, and German settlers — and for the “illegal confiscation” of their land and farms.
“It is a total disgrace that the G20 will be held in South Africa,” Trump wrote. “Afrikaners are being killed and their land and farms are being illegally taken. No US Government Official will attend as long as these human rights abuses continue.”
Trump Eyes Hosting Future G20 in the United States
Trump further indicated his plans to bring the G20 Summit back to the United States, stating that he looks forward to hosting the 2026 gathering in Miami if he returns to office.
His remarks come amid increasing attention on the global summit, which South Africa is set to host from November 22 to 23 under its rotating presidency of the world’s leading economies.
The former president’s comments have sparked debate both in Washington and internationally, with critics calling his statements politically motivated and potentially damaging to US-South Africa relations.
Trump’s boycott announcement also marks a rare instance of a major world leader publicly refusing to engage with the G20 due to domestic human rights allegations against a host country.
