Unidentified gunmen opened fire on the house of Pakistani fast bowler Naseem Shah in the Mayar area of Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, early Monday morning, police and local residents confirmed.
Attack Occurred in the Early Hours
According to police, the incident took place around 1:45 a.m., when unknown assailants fired multiple rounds at the main gate of the cricketer’s home, leaving visible bullet marks on the gate. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the firing.
The Mayar police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Officials said CCTV footage from nearby houses is being reviewed to identify the suspects, and security around the residence has been tightened.
Police Suspect Personal Dispute, Not Terrorism
Initial investigations suggest the attack was not terrorism-related but may have stemmed from a land dispute or regional rivalry, police sources said.
Naseem Shah’s father met with District Police Officer (DPO) Taimur Khan, who assured him that the culprits would be arrested soon. Local residents, however, expressed surprise over the incident, saying the Shah family is well-respected in the community and has no known enmity or ongoing disputes with anyone.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the motive behind the attack.
