Allegations against an Indian national for his purported role in orchestrating the attempted murder of Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun have been acknowledged by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
During a press briefing, Blinken emphasized the seriousness of the matter, noting that several officials have directly raised concerns with the Indian government in recent weeks. The US government welcomes India’s announcement of an investigation into the issue and anticipates the results, as stated by Blinken.
National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby echoed similar sentiments, underscoring the gravity of the allegations and the ongoing investigation. Earlier in the week, the US Justice Department disclosed that an Indian government official had allegedly directed an unsuccessful plot to assassinate a Sikh separatist on US soil.
The official, not named in the statement, collaborated with Nikhil Gupta, 52, to target a US citizen advocating for a sovereign Sikh state in northern India. Gupta, currently awaiting extradition after his arrest by Czech authorities in June, has not provided a comment on the allegations.
