Fazl Condemns Police Action, Backs Journalists’ Protest
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has strongly condemned violence against journalists, calling it completely unacceptable under any circumstances.
Speaking to reporters outside the National Press Club in Islamabad, Rehman denounced a recent incident involving police action inside the club, which he described as a form of terrorism.
He criticised the police for taking the law into their own hands and physically assaulting media personnel. “This is not just a violation of press freedom, but an attack on democracy,” he said.
Solidarity with Media, Right to Protest Recognised
The JUI-F chief expressed full solidarity with journalists and backed their right to peaceful protest. He said that the journalists’ demonstration was justified and necessary in the face of such aggression.
Rehman also warned against repeated attempts to silence the press, stressing that freedom of expression must be protected in all democratic societies.
