Security forces have neutralized at least 22 terrorists in the Tirah Valley, Khyber district, since December 14, 2024. According to the military’s media wing, the operations were launched in response to numerous terrorist incidents targeting both security personnel and civilians, resulting in significant casualties.
The ongoing intelligence-based operations (IBOs) have also left 18 terrorists injured. The military remains committed to restoring peace in the area, emphasizing that these efforts will continue until the region is completely free of terrorist elements.
“The operations aim to eliminate the menace of terrorism and bring stability to the region,” stated the military.
In a recent address, Army Chief General Asim Munir reiterated that any attempts to disrupt national peace would be countered with decisive force. His remarks came during a high-level meeting in Peshawar, where security strategies for the region were discussed.
Tirah Valley has been a hotspot for violent activities, with the broader regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan experiencing a surge in terrorist attacks since the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
The year 2024 marked one of the deadliest periods for Pakistan’s civil and military security forces in a decade, with 444 terrorist incidents leading to 685 fatalities. These figures were reported in the “CRSS Annual Security Report 2024” by the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies.
The military’s resolve to combat terrorism underscores its dedication to securing the nation and ensuring safety for its citizens.
