A young woman became unexpectedly wealthy after discovering that a forgotten lottery ticket had won her a jackpot.
The woman had bought a Lucky Day Lotto ticket while shopping for groceries. She stashed it in her purse and forgot about it for a week.
When the lottery results were announced on October 20, she still hadn’t checked her ticket. It was only later, as she remembered it and checked the numbers, that she realized she had won. Overcome with emotion, she started crying.
“On my way to visit my aunt, I stopped by Jewel to pick up a few groceries, and before leaving, I grabbed a quick pick Lucky Day Lotto ticket,” she shared. “I put the ticket in my purse and completely forgot about it.”
She is the ninth person to win the Illinois lottery jackpot this year. According to Lottery USA, the odds of winning the jackpot are just 1 in 1.22 million.
The winner is now thrilled to finally fulfill her dream of travel. “What I’m most excited about is being able to afford annual trips to my favorite place in the world: Ireland,” she shared. “The landscape is stunning, and now I can look forward to these trips every year.”
