Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty told US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday that Arab states firmly support Palestinians in rejecting US President Donald Trump’s plan to displace Palestinians in Gaza and take control of the enclave.
Egypt Urges Reconstruction Without Displacement
In a statement from Egypt’s foreign ministry, Abdelatty emphasized the need to expedite Gaza’s reconstruction while ensuring that Palestinians remain in their homeland. During his meeting in Washington, he expressed Egypt’s commitment to working with the new US administration to achieve a comprehensive and just peace in the region.
Arab States Stand Firm Against Forced Displacement
For generations, Palestinians and neighboring Arab states have vehemently opposed any proposal suggesting the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, which they see as an integral part of their future independent state. Since the onset of the Gaza war in 2023, Arab nations have consistently rejected such plans.
On Monday, Egypt’s foreign ministry called on the international community to stand in solidarity with Palestinians, advocating for the restoration of their “legitimate and inalienable rights” and addressing the “historic injustice” they have faced.
Global Condemnation of Trump’s Proposal
Trump’s proposal to prevent Palestinians from returning to Gaza has sparked widespread condemnation, with regional and global leaders warning that such a move would destabilize the region.
In an interview with Fox News on Monday, Trump reiterated that under his plan, Palestinians would not have the right of return to Gaza, further fueling international backlash.
