A deadly explosion struck the Nawagai area of Bajaur district on Wednesday, claiming the lives of at least five people and leaving 11 others injured, according to police reports.
The blast targeted a government vehicle traveling on Nawagai Road near the Siddiqabad railway crossing in Khar tehsil. Among those martyred were Nawagai Assistant Commissioner Faisal Sultan, local tehsildar, subedar Noor Hakim, and constable Rashid.
Authorities said the incident occurred as officials were passing through the area. While investigations are ongoing, initial assessments indicate that an improvised explosive device (IED) had been planted to deliberately target the vehicle.
Hospital sources confirmed that four of the deceased were taken to Khar Hospital, and rescue teams worked quickly at the scene to assist victims. Four of the injured, reported to be in critical condition, were transferred to Peshawar for advanced medical care.
Security forces and emergency responders arrived promptly, securing the site and evacuating the wounded to nearby medical facilities. The attack has heightened concerns about the security situation in Bajaur and surrounding tribal areas.
The blast comes amid renewed fears of militant activity targeting government officials and law enforcement, highlighting the persistent threat in the region despite ongoing security operations.
