Expensive Dogs
KARACHI: A resident of Karachi has reported the theft of two expensive dogs from a bungalow in the upscale Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 6 area. The incident, which has raised concerns among pet owners in the city, was officially reported at the Darakhshan police station.
According to the complaint, the case was lodged by Nelson, a professional dog trainer, who suspects that his acquaintance, Eric, orchestrated the theft.
Nelson claimed that Eric had recently familiarized himself with the dogs and had gained their trust before allegedly stealing them. The stolen pets were a pair of huskies, a rare and costly breed known for their thick coats and sledding abilities.
The First Information Report (FIR), states that Nelson believes the theft was premeditated.
He alleged that Eric had planned the incident by spending time with the dogs a few days prior. The trainer further asserted that Eric deceived his way into removing the dogs from the bungalow before fleeing the scene.
Following the complaint, police officials confirmed that an investigation had been launched. Authorities are working to gather evidence and locate the missing pets while also questioning those associated with the case.
The theft of expensive dogs is not an isolated incident in Karachi. In 2023, a horrifying case emerged when a policeman and four other individuals were charged with the brutal killing of a rare breed dog named “Joji.”
The FIR, registered against five suspects—identified as Mustafa, Waheed Kohati, Ali Sohni, Khalid Attock, and constable Ali Hassan Shah—detailed a disturbing case of animal cruelty.
Riaz Hussain, the plaintiff in that case, stated that he had previously engaged in a heated argument with two of the suspects, Ali and Mustafa, after they attempted to steal his dog. Following the altercation, they allegedly threatened him, warning that his pet’s days were numbered.
According to Hussain, the suspects followed through on their threats by stealing Joji on February 10. The dog was later found dead in a garbage dump in Hill Park two days later, on February 12. Disturbingly, the dog’s body showed signs of severe abuse, with visible burn marks on its chest.
The recurring incidents of pet theft and brutality in Karachi have sparked concern among animal lovers and activists, who are demanding stricter laws and better enforcement to protect animals from such crimes.
Authorities have assured that they are taking these cases seriously and will pursue justice for the victims, both human and animal.
