ISLAMABAD: Newly appointed Chief Justice of Pakistan, Yahya Afridi, presided over his first full court session since taking the oath of office.
All Supreme Court judges attended the session, with the exception of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, who is performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia. The full court was convened to address a range of judicial matters, including concerns raised by certain judges.
Chief Justice Afridi announced the session shortly after stepping into his role and restructured the Practice and Procedure Committee, restoring Justice Muneeb Akhtar as a committee member.
Previously, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and other senior judges had urged former Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa to hold a full court meeting, especially in light of the recently issued Practice and Procedure Amendment Ordinance. However, the session did not take place until now.
Justice Afridi began hearing cases on Monday, starting with the full court session.
Justice Yahya Afridi was sworn in as the 30th Chief Justice of Pakistan on October 26, in a ceremony at the President’s House, where President Asif Ali Zardari administered the oath.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, chief ministers, governors, federal ministers, senior military officials, and prominent members of the legal community, as well as civil society representatives.
