China has strongly criticized the recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, warning that they have damaged America’s standing and could trigger uncontrollable regional instability, according to state broadcaster CCTV. These remarks came during a UN Security Council session convened on Sunday to address the strike.
U.S. President Donald Trump described the operation as having “obliterated” key Iranian nuclear facilities the most impactful Western military action against Iran since the 1979 revolution. In response, China, along with Russia and Pakistan, introduced a UNSC resolution urging an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East.
China’s UN Ambassador, Fu Cong, cautioned all parties particularly Israel to restrain from further military action. He emphasized the need to avoid inflaming tensions and to prevent accidental escalation or wider conflict. Fu noted that while Iran was harmed, the U.S. has also suffered a loss of credibility not only in its nationhood but also as a mediator in international diplomacy .
State media labeled the U.S. action as “extremely dangerous and provocative,” with the Global Times warning that foreign military intervention would only deepen regional hatred and trauma.
Additionally, China’s embassy in Tehran confirmed that most Chinese nationals have been evacuated safely and that remaining citizens are in no imminent danger.
