China has issued a strong warning to Israel over its military actions against Iran, denouncing the strikes as violations of Iranian sovereignty and a serious threat to regional peace. The statement came during an emergency United Nations Security Council session, as tensions between the two nations sharply escalated into direct confrontation.
Chinese Ambassador to the UN, Fu Cong, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation and cautioned Israel against further military escalation. “China condemns Israel’s violations of Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity,” he stated, urging an immediate end to hostilities.
Fu emphasized that Beijing opposes actions that inflame tensions and provoke conflict. He warned that the current trajectory risks severe consequences for the Middle East, especially as diplomatic talks on Iran’s nuclear program remain stalled.
The latest hostilities began Friday when Israel launched what it called the beginning of a prolonged campaign to limit Iran’s nuclear capabilities. In response, Iran carried out retaliatory airstrikes later that night, with explosions reported in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
Fu also noted that continued conflict could derail diplomatic processes and worsen security conditions in the region. China has advised its citizens in both Israel and Iran to stay alert, warning of a “complex and serious” threat environment, including the possibility of missile or drone attacks.
China, which has positioned itself as a mediator in Middle Eastern affairs, reiterated its commitment to dialogue and peaceful resolution. Beijing played a crucial role in last year’s diplomatic thaw between Iran and Saudi Arabia and continues to advocate for restraint and diplomacy.
