In response to escalating tensions following India’s cross-border missile strikes, authorities in Rawalpindi have enforced a full nighttime blackout from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM as a precautionary measure to safeguard public security.
According to an official directive issued late Wednesday, all street lighting will remain off throughout the night. Residents have been instructed to switch off all exterior lights, including those on rooftops, in driveways, and porches. They are also advised to fully cover windows and minimize indoor lighting to reduce visibility from outside.
The administration stressed that these measures are vital to maintaining civilian safety and military readiness. Citizens have also been urged to refrain from unnecessary travel during the blackout hours.
This order follows a wave of Indian missile strikes late Tuesday night targeting civilian areas in six Pakistani cities. Officials have labeled the action as a covert declaration of war. At least 30 civilians were reported killed and more than 45 wounded in the attacks.
In a forceful military retaliation, Pakistan’s armed forces shot down five Indian fighter jets—three of which were Rafale aircraft—and destroyed key Indian military installations, including a brigade headquarters. Officials noted that Indian forces raised a white flag at the Chora complex along the Line of Control (LoC), signaling a symbolic retreat.
Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar stated that Pakistan’s counteroffensive inflicted substantial damage on Indian forces, including the downing of a drone and the dismantling of multiple frontline posts. He confirmed that military operations remain active and that Pakistan’s defense forces are on high alert.
Residents of private housing societies and across the city have been strongly urged to adhere to the blackout directive as national security takes precedence amid the ongoing regional crisis.
