ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police have rounded up a police constable and another man who attempted to attack the police officials deployed outside the Election Commission of Pakistan office on Friday.
DIG Operations Islamabad Police Sohail Zafar Chattha told media that one of the suspects is a constable in Khyber Pakhtukhwa police. The cop was deputed as a gunman in Islamabad for a lawmaker from the KP.
Chattha said, “He (cop) tried to open fire at Islamabad police officers with his official Kalashnikov.”
He also said that the officers present at the spot snatched the gun from the cop and has shifted him to the police station for interrogation.
Chattha said, “He had a government issued Kalashnikov.”
DIG Operations said the police is investigating as to how the suspect was able to bring the weapon outside the ECP office and why he tried to attack policemen.
