A district and sessions court in Islamabad has extended the physical remand of eight Chinese nationals by three more days in connection with an alleged online fraud case. The suspects had earlier completed an initial five-day remand and were brought before Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah for further proceedings.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), which is handling the investigation, presented the suspects in court and requested an extension of their remand to continue interrogations and gather more evidence. The court approved the request and granted an additional three days.
The FIA had registered a formal case against the individuals, accusing them of involvement in online fraud activities. Specific details regarding the nature of the scam, the extent of financial loss, or the number of victims involved have not been disclosed publicly. However, sources suggest that the suspects may be part of a larger network involved in digital fraud targeting citizens in Pakistan.
This development is part of a broader campaign by Pakistani authorities to clamp down on cybercrime and other illegal activities involving foreign nationals. In recent months, there has been a noticeable increase in law enforcement actions against individuals linked to online scams, human trafficking, and financial crimes. Officials have expressed concern over the growing use of digital platforms for illegal operations, prompting more rigorous oversight and cross-border cooperation.
The case involving the Chinese nationals has attracted public attention, given the international dimension of the investigation. Authorities have indicated that further arrests and leads may emerge as the probe progresses. The suspects remain in the custody of the FIA for now, as investigators work to trace the origins and extent of the alleged fraud scheme.
The extension of the remand reflects the court’s agreement with the prosecution’s stance that additional time is needed to complete the inquiry. Legal experts expect further hearings in the coming days as the investigation unfolds.
