Danish police are tightening border
The Justice Ministry announced that the Danish police are tightening border controls in response to recent burnings of the Quran. Ministry said the incidents have impacted the security situation in the country.
Sweden had already made a similar decision a week ago.
The Danish ministry stated, “Authorities said it is necessary to increase the focus on who is entering Denmark. This is being done in order to respond to the specific and current threats.”
The tighter border controls will be in effect until August 10, according to the statement.
In recent months, far-right activists in Denmark and Sweden have burned several copies of the Muslim holy book. It sparked an outrage in the Muslim world prompting calls for governments to ban such actions.
Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen condemned the burnings as “deeply offensive and reckless acts committed by few individuals.”
He emphasized that these individuals do not represent the values on which Danish society is built.
Rasmussen said any measures taken must be within the framework of constitutionally protected freedom of expression. He said it should not alter the fact that freedom of expression in Denmark has a broad scope.

OIC held a recent meeting and lodged a strong protest with Denmark and Sweden over the desecration of the Quran.
