ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has arrived in New York to represent Pakistan at the high-level United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on multilateralism and global governance, scheduled to begin tomorrow (Feb 18).
The meeting, themed “Practicing Multilateralism: Reforming and Improving Global Governance,” has been convened by China. It will be chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and attended by representatives of the 15-member Council.
Pakistan has welcomed China’s timely initiative, emphasizing the importance of multilateralism in tackling today’s complex global challenges.
In his address, Ishaq Dar will reaffirm Pakistan’s strong commitment to the principles of multilateralism and the pivotal role of the United Nations in fostering international peace, security, and sustainable development.
Pakistan’s Priorities at the UNSC
Dar is also expected to highlight Pakistan’s priorities as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the 2025-2026 term. He will stress the significance of dialogue, cooperation, and inclusive global governance in addressing global issues effectively.
Bilateral Engagements
On the sidelines of the UNSC meeting, Dar is anticipated to hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts from other nations and senior UN officials to further strengthen Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts.
This engagement underscores Pakistan’s active role in shaping global conversations around multilateralism and its continued commitment to international cooperation.
