ISLAMABAD” The Supreme Court of Pakistan has reported a significant decline in the number of pending cases in 2022.
According to the SC data, ending Dec 16, 2022, the number of pending cases has declined by 2,653.

The apex court, however, did not share the total number of pending cases which must be in thousands.
Since 2013, for the first time the apex court has recorded a decrease in the pending cases because of computerisation of record of undecided cases.
According to the SC, the number of cases filed with the top court of Pakistan every year was greater than the decided cases since 2013. Thus, cases kept on piling up until 2022.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Atta Bandial gave a special attention to tackle the pending cases and evovled a policy for hearing of cases every day.
This strategy ultimately reduced the number of pending cases by 2563 in a year in 2022 after a long gap.
