In a major breakthrough in the murder case of renowned Sindhi poet Dr. Akash Ansari, his foster son, Latif Akash, has admitted to killing him before setting his room on fire.
According to the investigating officer, Latif, who struggled with drug addiction, frequently demanded money from his foster father. The authorities have collected all crucial evidence and are awaiting forensic and post-mortem reports for further verification.
Latif has also undergone DNA testing as part of the inquiry. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Farrukh Lanjar stated that initial findings suggest Dr. Akash was murdered before the fire engulfed his residence in Citizen Colony, Hyderabad, on Saturday. The police had detained both Latif and the poet’s driver for questioning after suspecting foul play in the case.
Medical experts have confirmed that the poet’s death was not accidental. While waiting for the final autopsy results, authorities have strengthened their case based on medical assessments and gathered evidence.
Adding to the case, Dr. Akash’s cousin, Jan Mohammad Ansari, revealed that the poet had previously lodged a complaint against Latif, accusing him of attempted murder. He further alleged that Latif had issued threats to Dr. Akash’s life on multiple occasions.
Dr. Akash Ansari, aged 69, was widely respected for his contributions to Sindhi literature and poetry. His untimely death has left the literary community in shock. Law enforcement agencies continue to piece together the details of the crime, ensuring that all necessary legal measures are taken against the accused.
