ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has concluded the hearing on a petition seeking to delay the CSS 2025 exams until the results of CSS 2024 are announced. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani reserved the verdict after hearing arguments from all parties but did not specify when the decision would be issued.
During the proceedings, FPSC Chairman Lt. Gen. (R) Akhtar Nawaz Satti appeared before the court. In response to Justice Kayani’s inquiry, he explained that the CSS 2025 examination schedule had been announced before he assumed office on October 9, 2024. He argued that postponing the exams at this stage would disrupt the multi-year examination cycle.
He further noted that exam halls for 88 centers across the country had already been booked for February 15. Additionally, many of the 3,761 candidates awaiting CSS 2024 results were also set to appear in the upcoming exams or the special CSS exam. He assured the court that candidates’ opportunities would not be compromised and urged for the petition’s dismissal to allow the exams to proceed as planned.
Supporting FPSC’s stance, Additional Attorney General Munawar Iqbal Dogal emphasized that the commission has the legal authority to conduct new exams even before releasing previous results.
However, Justice Kayani remarked that had the results been announced even a week earlier, the petitioners would not have approached the court. He noted that the delay deprived candidates of the opportunity to assess their weaker subjects and adjust their subject choices accordingly.
A significant number of CSS 2024 candidates were present in the courtroom during the hearing. After considering all arguments, the court reserved its verdict without indicating when it would be announced.
