ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, has written letters to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Aminuddin Khan, head of the constitutional bench.
The 349-page letters, received by the judicial authorities, outline key demands and grievances regarding major political events.
Khan has called for the formation of a commission to investigate the incidents of May 9 and November 26, which have remained central to political and legal debates. The letters also express concerns over the crackdown on PTI workers following these events.
Key Issues Highlighted in the Letters
- Crackdown on PTI Workers: The letters provide a detailed account of raids on the homes of PTI workers, mass arrests, and the overall treatment of party members by authorities.
- Electoral Concerns: Khan references the February 8 elections, pointing out irregularities and concerns over the political process.
Government’s Stance on Talks with PTI
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that the government remains open to negotiations with PTI in an effort to resolve ongoing political issues.
Addressing the federal cabinet, PM Shehbaz claimed the government had created a conducive environment for dialogue but accused PTI of avoiding talks. He emphasized the formation of a government committee, chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, as evidence of their sincerity. However, he noted that PTI unilaterally withdrew from the scheduled meeting on January 28.
