A video showing an Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-29 fighter jet spiraling downward in a flat spin has gone viral.
The crash took place earlier today in a field near Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The IAF reported that the aircraft encountered a “system malfunction” before the accident. Fortunately, the pilot managed to safely eject after diverting the jet away from populated areas, preventing injuries or ground damage.
The footage captures the MiG-29 rapidly descending in a flat spin—a critical and uncontrolled rotational motion that poses serious flight safety risks—before crashing.
The IAF has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
This incident follows a similar MiG-29 accident on September 2 in Barmer, Rajasthan, which was attributed to a “critical technical snag.” In that case, the pilot also ejected safely.
First developed by the USSR in 1983, the MiG-29 was acquired by India in 1987 and has since been upgraded to improve its capabilities.
