During rising Indo-Pak tensions, a live television incident on May 10, 2025, exposed a significant flaw in the Indian media’s coverage of the conflict. As clashes escalated between Indian and Pakistani forces, experts, veteran journalists, and public figures in India criticized the widespread dissemination of fake news surrounding the events.
While Indian officials have yet to comment on the matter, a revealing incident on a prominent news channel cast a shadow over the coverage of the clashes between the two nations.
Shortly after Pakistan launched its military offensive, named Bunyan-um-Marsoos, an Indian reporter made an unintentional admission of reporting false information during a live broadcast. The reporter, appearing on video, revealed that they had been pressured by superiors to provide updates quickly and, in the process, aired misleading news reports.
“First, they demand, ‘Give us an update! Give us an update!’ and then they air the fake news and question why we reported false information,” the visibly frustrated reporter said.
The reporter, seemingly unaware that his microphone was still on, ended the statement with inappropriate language. This unexpected admission underscores the extent of misinformation being propagated by the Indian media during this sensitive and volatile period.
