ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court today directed the secretaries of Interior and Foreign Ministries to submit a report in the court on Tuesday (Oct 25) about the alleged murder of TV anchor/journalist Arshad Sharif.
Famous anchorperson was shot dead in Nairobi, Kenya, by Kenyan police on Sunday. In a statement issued to media on Monday, Kenyan police said, the killing of Pakistani journalist was the result of a misunderstanding.
Hearing an application about investigation into the killing of Arshad Sharif, the Islamabad High Court directed the federal secretaries of interior and foreign ministries to contact the family of the deceased through their representatives. The court also ordered them to make sure that the probe of assassination of Arshad Sharif is conducted according to the satisfaction of the bereaved.
Javeria Siddique, wife of Arshad Sharif was the first person to confirm death of Arshad in a shooting through a tweet at 5am today.
She, nonetheless, urged the media and people to respect privacy of their family and not share photos that may hurt sentiments.
PTI chairman Imran Khan said that the famous TV anchorperson has paid the price for speaking the truth. He had to leave the country & be in hiding abroad but he continued to speak the truth on social media, exposing the powerful. Today the entire nation mourns his brutal murder.
Senior journalists, political stalwarts, and fans of the anchorperson are demanding a transparent probe of the murder on social media and other platforms.
