Karachi Man
A 35-year-old man, identified as Fazal, tragically ended his life by hanging from a tree in the Gulshan-e-Hadeed area of Karachi.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, was reportedly driven by financial distress and unemployment. Rescue personnel discovered Fazal’s body and transported it to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
In a heartbreaking video message, Fazal’s wife shared that he had been struggling with despair due to their worsening financial condition. She revealed that he often expressed his inability to provide food for their two children. “My husband would say he could not see the children hungry,” she said. Despite her efforts to comfort and support him, Fazal left the house with the intention of ending his life, a decision she was unable to prevent.
In addition to financial struggles, Fazal was also battling drug addiction, which likely exacerbated his mental health issues. His tragic death sheds light on the growing unemployment crisis in Pakistan, where over 4.5 million people are currently jobless.
According to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2023-24, the youth unemployment rate has reached 11%, further highlighting the dire situation faced by many families.
Mental health experts emphasize that such incidents can be prevented with timely intervention and support. If someone is showing signs of self-harm or suicidal thoughts, it is crucial to take immediate action. Some steps include:
- Ensuring the person is not left alone.
- Removing any objects they could use to harm themselves.
