Eight people lost their lives, and 17 others sustained injuries in a knife attack at a vocational school in eastern China on Saturday, according to police reports. The incident occurred during the evening at the Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology in Yixing, Jiangsu province, with authorities confirming the casualties.
The suspect, a 21-year-old former student who failed to graduate this year due to exam failures, allegedly returned to the school to express anger through violence. Police revealed that he confessed to the attack after his arrest.
Emergency services in Yixing promptly mobilized to treat the injured and provide support to those impacted. While knife crimes are not uncommon in China, where gun control laws are stringent, attacks resulting in such a high death toll remain rare.
This incident follows a deadly week in China. Earlier, a 62-year-old man killed 35 people and injured over 40 by driving his SUV into a crowd in Zhuhai. In October, a knife attack in a Shanghai supermarket claimed three lives and left 15 injured. In September, a Japanese student was fatally stabbed in Shenzhen, a city bordering Hong Kong.
