Lahore has received a fleet of 11 electric buses from China, marking a major step towards sustainable public transportation.
According to officials from the transport department, an additional 16 electric buses are expected to arrive in Lahore from Karachi within the next few days.
This initiative is part of a pilot project, which aims to introduce a total of 27 electric buses in its first phase.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is scheduled to inaugurate the electric bus service on February 19 (tomorrow).
A dedicated charging station for the electric buses has been set up in Lahore’s Green Town area. Each bus can accommodate up to 60 passengers, offering a modern and eco-friendly commuting alternative for residents.
The transport company overseeing the project will transfer all buses to the Punjab Transport Department for operational management.
Furthermore, tenders have been issued for the expansion of the electric bus service in Faisalabad and Bahawalpur, signaling a broader rollout of environmentally friendly transport solutions across Punjab.
