Some as yet unidentified armed men kidnapped 19 Muslim worshippers after attacking a mosque in Nigeria.
According to police, attackers stormed the mosque in Maigamji village, in Katsina state. They fired on Imam (prayer leader), worshippers and kidnapped some of them.
“Police have rescued six of the worshippers from the kidnappers and efforts are being made to recover remaining 13,” Nigerian police said.
Nigeria’s Northwest and central areas are experiencing terrorism by gangsters. The bandits often raid mosques, public places and kidnap for ransom people.
Police said that hostages are released when kidnappers get ransom.
In Nov 2022, 15 people were killed and many other were wounded in a series of bandit attacks on villages in neighboring Kaduna state.
Nigerian President has been under pressure to end lawlessness in the country.
